Windows 10 Upgrades Here!

If you are thinking about doing the upgrade yourself then you still might need to know a few things first about setting up and using some of the new features and settings. Your in the right place!

So Lets Get Started!

Make sure you are receiving updates on your PC and that all available and recommended updates are installed. The Microsoft Windows 10 app will be downloaded and installed as a required update to your Win 7 / 8 system. Once downloaded run the Get Windows 10 app from the task bar app icon. This will start the upgrade process.

Next Windows 10 will download  to your device and notify you when its ready, and so far this going very quickly for Microsoft. If you need to create a USB drive or DVD for installing on multiple devices you will need to download the media from Microsoft at the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Finally you are ready to update, just wait for your notification and run with it. The process is very smooth and requires virtually no help from you once started as all settings and data will be retained. This is one of the easiest upgrades I have ever used. Once installed that is where a lot of people might get a little bit lost. So if you made it through the upgrade then you are ready to do some tweaking right. Lets go.

You've Upgraded Now What?

Windows will open to a splash screen and will resume to the desktop after keyboard or mice interaction this screen is changeable in personalization later with multiple options. Once keyed you will see the logon screen appear briefly to log in to your profile. Get in there and lets check it out. Windows is now looking back at you from the desktop, take notice that some features such as gadgets have been removed in the new version. Moving your mouse to the task bar you can see the icons have changed a little and that is important, lets start there.

Hoovering over the task bar right click the Windows icon and you will find a list of usable options that are commonly used. This includes the Mobility Center, Management Tools and Power options to name a few. I'll be using that a  bunch as I commonly find myself in the management consoles. This task bar icon also opens your start menu when left clicked and shows the live tiles that replaced those gadgets and desktop icons. The start menu is expandable across the screen to allow for plenty of tiles. You may also change the properties of each tile with a right click menu as well as adding and removing tiles to suite you.

Next is the notification icon on the task bar appearing as a message box icon on the opposite end from the Windows icon. Left click this to open the action center which you will find crucial to your new Windows 10 system offering security and maintenance, notifications and a customizable mobility center of useful tasks. The all settings tile is very important so you can quickly change system related settings from there. If you are still with me at this point the rest should look and feel familiar to you and there should be no more issues navigating windows 10.
Okay got it? I hope this gets you started and into that new copy of windows with out the confusion and frustration that often comes with windows. I think Microsoft did a great job on this one and look forward to using my new Windows 10. Throughout the week We will be posting more info on Windows 10 including tweaks tips and tricks as well as issues from system installs and usage that follow the next couple days.
